Why I created Shambhala Kids…
Hi Parents- welcome to the 2026–27 school year at Shambhala Kids!
Shambhala Kids is more than an afterschool program. It is a creative, nurturing community where children can unwind after the school day, explore their interests, build meaningful friendships, and feel supported as their full selves.
Our program combines arts-based learning, movement, mindfulness, outdoor play, and child-led exploration. Throughout the week, children participate in activities such as dance, visual arts, theater, storytelling, yoga, and wellness practices, while still having plenty of time for free play, imagination, and connection.
As a mother of two, I understand how important it is to find a program where you can trust that your child will be safe, cared for, and truly understood. My own daughter struggled with focus and behavior in school, and over the years, I received my share of difficult phone calls. Those experiences helped me recognize that children do not all learn, communicate, or process their emotions in the same way—and that the environment surrounding them can make a tremendous difference.
Through my work as a teaching artist, wellness educator, and trauma-informed practitioner, I wanted to create the kind of space I wished had been available to my own family: one that supports children’s creativity, individuality, emotional development, and sense of belonging.
Our approach is rooted in five guiding values:
Self-Awareness
Helping children recognize and communicate their feelings, needs, and strengths.
Safe Communication
Teaching children how to express themselves respectfully, listen to others, and work through conflict.
Empathy
Encouraging children to consider the feelings and experiences of those around them.
Compassion
Creating a community where kindness, patience, and care are practiced every day.
Acceptance
Celebrating the different personalities, identities, abilities, and experiences that make each child unique.
These values are woven throughout our daily activities, routines, and relationships. Our caring Group Leaders take the time to get to know each child and create an environment where children can feel comfortable, capable, and connected.
Registration for the 2026–27 school year is now underway, and space is limited. We are excited to welcome returning families and meet the new children who will become part of our community.
We cannot wait to learn more about your kiddo!
